2021년 12월 라브리 소식편지
존경하는 기도가족께 올립니다.
2년 전에 퍼지기 시작한 코로나가 이렇게 세상을 바꿔놓을 줄은 아무도 예상하지 못했을 것입니다. 이렇게 오랫동안 이 작은 바이러스로 인해 온 세계가 일희일비(一喜一悲)하게 될 줄은 더욱 예상하지 못했습니다. 최근에도 백신과 치료제의 개발, 위드코로나 정책으로 인해 희망이 보이는 것 같았지만 이내 새로운 변종이 등장해 다시 혼란스러운 모습입니다. 어떻게 해야 코로나를 이겨낼 수 있을까요? 정부도 모르고 과학자들도 잘 모르는 것 같습니다. 정확히 아는 사람이 없어 보입니다. 올해가 얼마 남지 않았지만 내년에는 희망을 가져보아도 될까요? 대답할 수 있는 사람이 없을 것 같습니다.
감사하게도 라브리는 지난 11월부터 학기를 다시 시작하였습니다. 학기를 운영하는 조건은 까다로웠습니다. 우선 백신접종을 2차까지 완료해야 하고, 도착 하루 전 PCR검사에 음성이어야 합니다. 또 정부의 방역지침에 따라 최소한의 인원만을 받았습니다. 1년이 넘도록 쉬었고 불편한 수칙이 있는데도 학기 첫날부터 여러 명의 손님들이 라브리를 찾아주었습니다. 라브리 헬퍼였고 원주세브란스기독병원에서 통역을 하고 있는 줄리아씨, 반도체 연구원이며 교회의 신실한 청년인 진구씨, 라브리 헬퍼로 섬겼던 대안학교 교사 주혜씨와 친구 윤아씨, 미술작가인 이순종 선생, 고민하는 삼척 청년 예지씨, 예비 초등 교사 시원씨, 맛있는 잼을 선물한 우빈씨, 장애학 박사과정을 하고 있는 관형씨, 마다가스카르에서 사역하시는 장준호 선교사, 그리고 샬롬자유학교 전택보 목사와 예림양, 시현군이 이번 학기에 라브리를 다녀갔습니다.
온라인으로 매주 토요일 저녁 모였던 <라브리 테이블>도 감사하게 마쳤습니다. 10주 동안 매주 2시간씩 모여 강의를 듣고 ‘정직한 질문에 정직한 대답’을 하는 시간을 가졌습니다. 강의에는 미주리침례대학교 코델 슐튼 교수, 청주대학교 김광호 교수가 수고해주셨고 라브리에서는 지현석 연구원, 김종원 연구원, 손준원 연구원, 인경 간사, 경옥 간사, 삼원 간사, 창희 간사가 수고해 주셨습니다. 이렇게 시즌 1을 마쳤고 다음 학기에는 1월 15일부터 시즌 2가 시작됩니다. <라브리 테이블>에서 강의를 해주시거나 참여하시길 원하시는 분은 라브리로 연락을 주시길 바랍니다.
해를 마치면서 몇 가지 기도 부탁을 드립니다.
1. 새해에는 1월 10일부터 새 학기가 시작됩니다. 라브리는 숙식을 전제로 사역하며 수도권에서 많은 분들이 찾아오기 때문에 항상 방역에 최선을 다하고 있습니다. 코로나로부터 라브리를 보호해 주시기를 기도해 주세요. 정부의 방역수칙이 변경되면 언제든지 다시 라브리의 학기를 중단할 수 있습니다.
2. <라브리 테이블> 시즌 2를 위해서 기도해주세요. 온라인의 장점은 장소에 구애받지 않는다는 것입니다. 다음 시즌에도 시의적절한 강의를 해 줄 좋은 강사들이 많이 자원하도록 기도해 주시기 바랍니다. 하나님께서 이 새로운 도구를 복음 전파와 구령(救靈)의 도구로 사용해주시길 간절히 바랍니다.
3. 아직 해결되지 않은 별채와 뒷산을 위해 기도해주세요. 오랫동안 기도하고 있지만 아직 해결되지 않고 있습니다. 어떤 방식으로든 하나님께서 인도해주시는 대로 라브리가 준비할 수 있기를 기도해주시기 바랍니다.
4. 이삼원 간사가 살고 있는 백암당 난방 시설과 화장실을 수리하고 있습니다. 추운 날씨에도 공사를 맡으신 동성에너텍의 양언모 사장과 일하는 분들을 위해 기도해 주시고, 일이 순조롭게 잘 진행되어 성탄절 전후로 일을 마칠 수 있도록 기도해 주시기 바랍니다.
100년 전 구한말과 일제시대를 살았던 우리 선조들의 삶을 생각해보면 혼돈과 혼란 그 자체였을 것입니다. 우리는 지금 질병으로 인해 혼란을 겪고 있지만 100년 전에는 사회, 정치, 문화적인 혼란이었습니다. 구한말 서구로부터 새로운 문물과 문화가 들어오고 폭풍 같은 지정학적인 혼란과 일제의 강제 침탈 속에 우리나라에 복음이 전해지고 교회가 세워졌습니다. 그 속에서 우리 신앙의 선배들은 목숨을 내어놓지 않으면 신앙을 지킬 수 없었습니다. 교회와 교단조차도 일제의 하수인이 되어 신앙을 지키던 신자들을 교회에서 내쫓아버렸기 때문입니다. 그분들을 생각하면 지금 우리가 겪고 있는 이 어려움은 아무것도 아닌 것 같습니다. 그분들이 예수님의 고난을 생각하며 소망을 얻었듯이 우리도 언제나 예수님과 신앙의 선배들이 받았던 고난을 생각하며 소망을 얻을 수 있습니다. 기독교 신앙은 항상 같은 소망을 가지고 있습니다.

우리가 이 세상에서 맡겨진 소임을 다하고 주님의 나라에 이르는 그 날에 ‘지금까지 지내온 것 주의 크신 은혜라!’ 소리 높여 찬송을 올려드릴 수 있기를, 그날까지 살아계시고 말씀하시는 삼위 하나님께서 우리의 삶을 친히 인도해 주시길 간절히 소망합니다.

Dear Praying Family,
When COVID-19 was first discovered two years ago, no one could have predicted how it would change the world. Moreover, no one could have predicted how long the world would suffer from it. Recently, the development of vaccines and medicines and mitigation policies have given hope, but new mutations have soon swept it away. How can we overcome COVID-19? Even the government and scientists don't seem to know. No one seems to know for sure. Can we have hope next year? No one seems to be able to answer.
Thankfully, we started the new term this last November. The conditions for resuming residential work were strict. First, guests must complete all immunizations prior to arrival and test negative in PCR. In addition, in accordance with the government’s quarantine guidelines, we only accepted a minimum number of guests. Even though the long break time and strict conditions, many guests visited from the first day. Follows are short introductions of guests.

Every Saturday for 10 weeks, we had an online Lecture called
1. The first term of the new year begins on January 10th. Since most of guests come from the metropolitan area where transmission occurs a lot, we are doing our best to quarantine. Please pray for protection of L’Abri from COVID-19. If the government strengthens quarantine guidelines, the term could be suspended at any time.
2. Please pray for the L’Abri Table season 2. The best thing about online tool is that it brings us together everywhere. Please pray that many good speakers will volunteer to give lecture in a timely manner in the coming season as well. I hope God may use this new tool for the gospel and salvation.
3. Please pray for the Old Gas Station and the mountain behind L’Abri. We have been praying for a long time, but it is still not resolved. Please pray that L’Abri will be able to prepare the next generation as God leads in any way.
4. We are repairing heating facilities and toilets in Baekamdang where SamWon lives. Please pray for the laborers who are working in this cold weather and that all work will be finished before Christmas.
Korea in the early 20th century was very chaotic. We are now in chaos due to epidemic, but 100 years ago it was a social, political and cultural chaos. In the midst of the chaos of a new Western culture, geopolitical instability and Japanese imperialism, the gospel was widely spread, and many churches were founded in Korea. Korean Christians at this time could not keep their faith unless they gave up their lives. The church becoming the servant of Japanese imperialism expelled them from the church. Considering them, the difficulties we are experiencing now seem to be nothing. As they found hope in Jesus’ passion, we always find hope in him and in them. The Christian faith always shows the same hope.

On the day we fulfill all our mission and reach the kingdom of the Lord, I hope we can raise our voices and sing hymns ‘All my life is the great grace of the Lord!’ I hope that God who is there and not silent will personally guide our lives until that day.
