2012년 1월 라브리 소식편지
추운 겨울 모두 안녕하신지요. 계속되는 한파로 많은 사람들이 감기로 고생하는 것 같습니다. 저도 2주나 기침으로 고생하고 나니 빨리 따뜻한 봄이 왔으면 하는 마음 뿐 입니다.
1월 동안 라브리에는 많은 일들이 있었습니다. 먼저 12월에 시작한 난방공사를 학기 시작하기 직전에 마무리 했습니다. 많은 분들의 관심과 헌금으로 겨울 학기에 오실 손님들을 섬길 수 있도록 해주신 하나님과 후원자들에게 감사드립니다.
또한 1월 10일부터 14일 까지 기독교 세계관 학교가 있었습니다. 총인원 70명이 먹고 자면서 다양한 주제의 강의들을 듣고 토론하는 매우 유익한 시간이었습니다. 이번에는 라브리 근처에 있는 미천골 자연 휴양림 안에 있는 ‘불바라기’라는 펜션에서 모든 일정이 진행되었습니다. 저희가 받는 회비로 빌리기에는 어림없는 장소였지만 가치 있는 일을 위해 집을 내어 주고 싶어 하는 사장님 부부의 특별한 배려로 가능했습니다. 이분들이 예수님을 알고 믿도록 기도해 주세요.
이번 세계관 학교에는 영국, 미국, 헝가리, 일본, 거제도, 전주, 대구, 서울, 강원도 등 원근각지에서 참여했습니다. 또한 20대 초반에서 50대 까지 연령대도 다양했습니다. 국적과 지역, 나이와 성별을 뛰어 넘어 소통하는 모임을 찾아보기 힘든 이때에 세계관 학교는 그리스도 안에서 하나가 될 수 있다는 사실을 확인하는 자리였습니다. 계속 라브리의 기독교 세계관 학교가 한국 교회에 선한 영향력을 끼칠 수 있도록 기도 부탁드립니다.
세계관 학교는 모두에게 매우 유익한 시간이었지만 간사들은 세계관 학교를 마치고도 쉴 수가 없었습니다. 세계관 학교 이후에 간사들은 바로 일반 학기를 진행해야 했기 때문입니다. 또한 설에도 라브리에 머무는 손님들이 많았기에 간사들은 설을 가족과 함께 하지 못했습니다.
하지만 혈육이 아니어도 그리스도 안에서 영적인 가족들이 함께 하기에 아쉽거나 외롭지 않았습니다. 서로 둘러서서 맞절도 하고 같이 떡국도 나누며 윷 놀이도 하며 알찬 설을 보냈습니다. 설이 되어도 갈 곳이 없거나 가족을 만나도 평안이 없는 사람들에게 참 가족과 평안이 되어 주는 것에 대해 깊이 생각해보는 설이었습니다.
라브리는 지금도 계속 진행 중입니다. 손님들은 공부방에서 책을 읽거나 대화를 즐기고, 간사들은 집에서 식사를 준비하고, 나무를 자르며, 웃음과 눈물을 같이 나눕니다. 공동체는 이렇게 쉴 세가 없습니다. 이번 학기는 2월 10일에 마칩니다.
끝으로 저는 2월 10일을 끝으로 라브리를 떠나게 됩니다. 라브리를 둘러보면 제 손이 닫지 않은 곳이 없는 것 같습니다. 그러기에 사람 뿐 아닌 물건 하나하나에도 남다른 감정이 있습니다. 하지만 시간이 지나면 지날수록 하나님에 대한 깊은 앎에 있어서 부족한 저를 발견하게 되었습니다. 그리하여 저는 국내나 해외에서 성경을 집중적으로 공부하는 시간을 갖기로 결정 했습니다. 생각나시면 종종 기도 해 주시길 부탁드립니다.
성인경, 박경옥 간사는 2월 10일 이후에는 몇 달간 쉬기를 원합니다. 이 기간 동안 두 분의 지친 몸과 영혼이 충분한 쉼을 얻을 수 있도록 기도 부탁드립니다. 라브리에서 동역할 새로운 분들이 간사로 지원하여 좋은 팀을 꾸릴 수 있도록 기도 해 주세요.
언제나 건강하시고, 가정과 직장에서 행복과 평화가 넘치길 기도합니다.

Dear Praying Family,
As the cold weather persists, news reports show an increasing number of cold and flu outbreaks. I am no exception, as I have been sick for 2 weeks as well. I’m anxiously looking forward to the arrival of the warm spring.
Thankfully, our heating system was repaired just in time for the beginning of a new term in January. We are grateful to our Lord and all who joined us in the effort through prayer and gifts.
We held the year’s first School of Christian Worldview from January 10 to 14. About 70 people attended the classes. We had to hold most sessions at the nearby Bulbaragi lodge (in the scenic Micheongol Forest) because L’Abri was too small to hold all the students and visitors. The typical cost of lodging at Bulbaragi is beyond what our students can afford; but the owner gave us a special discount because he appreciated the purpose of our program. I hope and pray that someday he may find faith in Jesus.
People from all over the world joined us for Christian Worldview classes: we had visitors from England, America, Hungary, and Japan, in addition to Koreans from Seoul, Daegu, Jeonju, Geojedo, Kangwondo, and more. Participants’ age ranged from the 20s through the 50s. It is intriguing that people from such diverse background gathered together with one purpose in mind. I believe that the School was very meaningful to all participants. Please pray that the School of Christian Worldview may contribute positively to Christianity in Korea.
Our winter term continued after the School of Christian Worldview. Many people stayed with us during the Lunar New Year holidays. This meant that workers couldn’t travel to their hometowns to meet their families like many other Koreans do; but we had a great time with brothers and sisters in Christ celebrating the holidays with traditional New Year greetings, traditional games, and special food. We also remembered those who do not have a place to go, nor a family to celebrate together.
The term is still in progress, and L’Abri is alive with students and visitors reading books, conversing with one other, preparing meals, and chopping fire woods. The winter term runs through Feb. 10.
As for me, I regret to inform you that I will be leaving L’Abri at the end of the current term. As I stroll around L’Abri, I find that every corner has a meaning to me. Over the years, I have gradually realized that my knowledge of God is still lacking; and I have decided to focus on studying God’s Word, either in Korea or overseas. Please remember me and my family in your prayers.
After I leave, InKyung and KyungOk will be the only workers remaining. They would like to take a break after Feb. 10, for a few months. Please pray that they may restore their physical strength and become spiritually renewed during this much-needed break. Also pray that our Lord may send us new workers.
